Homework

The only mandatory homework this year for all 1st and 2nd grade classes is our weekly Read and Respond paper.  This assignment will begin on September 14.

At the start of each week, students will be given a new Read and Respond paper to take home.  Depending on the student's SFA teacher, some Read and Respond sheets may be a half sheet, while others may be a full sheet.

Students are expected to read for 20 minutes nightly.  Ideally this should be with an adult or a responsible older sibling, but this could also be reading to a pet or stuffed animal.  The books can be from their SFA teacher, their own personal collection, or from the bag of books brought home each week from school.  No matter the situation, students must then complete their Read and Respond sheet each night using one of the books they read during the 20 minutes.

The Read and Respond paper should stay at home until it is due in class on Friday every week.  Papers will be turned in to the child's homeroom teacher, not the SFA teacher.

This weekly assignment is worth 5 points toward students' reading grades--1 point for each night completed at home on Monday through Thursday, and 1 point for participating in our silent reading time on Fridays.
