Parents/Guardians,
This page has answers to some of the most frequently asked questions I've received over the years from parents (and sometimes from students, too). If you have a question that you don't see listed here, contact me and I'll be happy to answer it.
There are many things you can do! Below are a few helpful tips.
Ask your child about his/her day at school every day. I'm sure that you already do this, but something this simple shows the interest and support that a child routinely needs. It also opens up discussion about what was learned in school, leading to memory recall and comprehension.
Make sure that your child has a quiet place where reading and math fact practice can be done without interruption.
Log in to ProgressBook weekly to keep tabs on your child's grades.
You can check this by going to the Parent Access portion of ProgressBook. Click on the grades section of our website to find out more information about the input of grades and logging in to check them.
Sure thing. Contact me with any questions you have, and I will be happy to answer them. We can also set up a time to chat during school hours if you'd like.
Barberton Primary School uses a plus, check, and minus system for grades. Check the grades section of this website to learn more about the percentage equivalent of this system, and how these grades are entered into ProgressBook.
Opportunities for extra credit will likely not happen. If for some reason an extra credit opportunity does come up though, families will be made well aware.
This bag contains a small set of books that your child selected from our class library to read at home. Reading these books is not a mandatory assignment, although the books from the bag can be used as a part of the Read and Respond homework. They can also just be books to read for fun. Every week your child will return the books back to our class library and select a new set of books that interests him/her.
Yes, but I would like to have water bottles stay in lockers during class to prevent accidental spills and damaged property. Students can get drinks during restroom breaks, after a special (e.g., art, music, gym, etc.), and after recess.
Water bottles must only have water in them—no flavored water, sports drinks, pop, etc. Please make sure water bottles are labeled with your child’s first and last name.
Sure thing! For the sake of time and organization though, I ask that a few guidelines are followed if sending in birthday treats:
plates & napkins
something quick & easy to distribute like…
store-bought treats (cupcakes, cookies, individually-wrapped snacks, etc.)
juice boxes
homemade treats (school policy)
cake
ice cream
pourable drinks & cups
If you do plan on sending a treat, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance so I can set aside time for the celebration. I can also tell you how many students we have, and if there are any class allergies. Thank you!
You mean little pictures that seem...out of place? Like they have nothing to do with what you're reading about? You're actually finding items for the scavenger hunt without even realizing it! Click here to learn more.
